Hunan's Largest Ship Factory to Start Production

After two years' construction, the new Ship Factory of Changsha (SFC) will start trial production at the end of October, 2011. It will become Hunan's largest modern shipyard with the most complete facilities and the most advanced functions, and moreover, the national first-class building base for inland vessels.

Established in 1951, SFC now focuses on shipbuilding, large-scale steel structure manufacturing, and terminal handling after its relocation. It covers an area of 580 mu (about 386,667 square meters) and costs an investment of 514 million yuan, with the ship building capacity reaching 6,000 ton. The main workshop will be completed and put into operation this month.

It is reported that the new factory is expected to begin making a large engineering ship able to lift 500 tons on the water this month. At present, it has received orders and intention orders worth nearly 200 million yuan.
