Embroidered Portraits of Mao Zedong in Shaoshan

A series of portraits of Chairman Mao, embroidered by over 20 artists from Changsha Shoupai Embroidery Factory, were completed after five years of hard work. These portraits will be exhibited at Comrade Mao Zedong Memorial Museum in Shaoshan during the period of June 15 through July 15.

The exhibition is themed on the images of the great man. Seven masterworks portray the brilliant images of late Chairman Mao Zedong in different significant historical moments. The portraits are expressive with meticulous stitches and exquisite materials. The artists created so many new stitches and crafts that the three dimensional and lighting effects are quite impressive. They can be regarded as the huge masterpieces of Hunan embroidery.

"The reason for embroidering such a series of works is that we hope young generations, on the occasion of the 90th founding anniversary of the CPC, can engrave on their minds the great man who dedicated himself to Chinese revolution when enjoying these works of art." said Su Zhili of Hunan Shoupai Embroidery Factory.
