2011 Zhangjiajie Int'l Forest Protection Festival Kicks off

The 2011 China (Zhangjiajie) International Forest Protection Festival & Zhangjiajie's Launching Ceremony of the International Year of Forests was held in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park on April 8, 2011.

Over 5,000 guests, tourists, young volunteers, and primary and secondary students at home and abroad attended the ceremony.

Simple but effective, the opening ceremony of this 15th forest protection festival achieved zero-emission without fireworks or air conditioners.

At the opening ceremony, Zhangjiajie spearheaded announcing an action scheme for the International Year of Forests and issued Pledges for Ecological Civilization. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the PRC awarded a certificate of national geographical indication products to the city's giant salamander, the first aquatic wildlife enjoying this honor.

Via this festival, Institute of Geographic Science and Natural Resources Research, CAS and Zhangjiajie have decided to make joint efforts to establish the Collaborative Research Center of Zhangjiajie Landscape to conduct an in-depth study in this field.
