Zhangjiajie Performs Well as the Home of Chinese Giant Salamanders

Zhangjiajie has become the major origin area for Chinese giant salamanders, Xiang Zuoyi, vice mayor of Zhangjiajie City stated at the press conference held by the Zhangjiajie Municipal People’s Government on March 22nd, 2011 in Changsha.
  
Zhangjiajie has made continuous efforts to further protect Chinese giant salamanders and attempted to make use of this precious resource in recent years. It has established the Chinese giant salamander protection zone, buffer zone and experimental zone with the total area of 14,285 hectares as well as 11 stations for Chinese giant salamander observation and protection. With the support of the Hunan Livestock and Aquatic Products Bureau, Hunan Giant Salamander Rescue Center, the International Giant Salamander Academic Exchange Center, Hunan Giant Salamander Protection & Development Association  have also been founded. In 2010 Zhangjiajie attracted investment worth more than 60 million yuan to build the first giant salamander biotechnology museum in China.
  
Zhangjiajie has built 29 breeding bases for giant salamanders in natural, artificial and bionic environments, with the annual artificial breeding output of over 1,000 giant salamanders. This project has attracted 500 million yuan as capital investment in and out of Hunan Province, and 36 million yuan as fiscal support.
