Recently, the second batch of national famous travel towns (villages) with characteristic landscape have been released to the public. Hunan's Jiayi Town of Pingjiang County, Caitaiyuan Villiage of Dingzi Town, Wangcheng County, and Heye Town of Shuangfeng County are on the list.
The selection of national famous travel towns (villages) with characteristic landscape aims at propelling the planning and construction of small towns and development of travel in rural areas. A total of 200 applications were submitted to the relevant departments for approval in 2010. After careful examination and public announcement, 111 towns (villages) obtained this title.
Last year, the Hunan Provincial Tourism Bureau launched "3521" project in a bid to push forward the development of travel in rural areas during three years (2010-- 2012). The "3521" refers to developing 30 strong travel counties, 50 famous travel towns with characteristic landscape, 200 famous travel villages with distinctive features, and 10,000 happy farmhouses and family inns across the province.
