Sixth Hengyang Cole Flower Festival Kicks off

The 2017 China (Hengyang) Sixth Cole Flower Festival and Hunan Celebrity Eco-culture Tourism Festival kicked off in Huashan Village, Kuzongqiao Town, Hengyang County on Feb. 26, 2017. 

Hengyang County is the hometown of Wang Fuzhi (Pseudonym Chuansha), a Chinese philosopher of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

The festival aims to highlight local celebrities and Huxiang culture while showcasing beautiful flower scenery, to promote the building of the county into a leisure travel destination.

The opening ceremony was simple but grand, starting with a straw dragon dance performed by Jiushi Township of the county. After that 20 couples held a group wedding together in a ten thousand-mu (about 666.7 hectares) cole flower fields. Followed by a mountain bike race which was held in the cole flower fields, and the track was as long as 10 kilometers.

The festival was expected to last till April 10. During the festival, a series of wonderful activities will be held, including a mountain climbing contest, “A Bite of Xiang Cuisine”-“Tasting Zhajiang Cuisine”, ultimate prize-giving of a mobile phone game, and contest on literary and artistic creation. 

Qipao enthusiasts in traditional Chinese dress, or qipao, put on a fashion show in cole flower fields.

Cole flowers are in full bloom near veteran mountains and clean waters.
