Red Carbonate-rock Forest Park "Most Beautiful Geopark of China"

According to the first "Most Beautiful Geopark of China" on July 4, 2013, the Red Carbonate-rock Forest National Geopark, located in Guzhang County of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, was crowned the title.

Co-organized by the Geological Society of China, Commission on Tourism Earth Science and Geopark, and Henan Provincial Geological Tourism Development Promotion Committee, the selection is aimed at looking for the most "Peculiar and Splendid" geopark in China. Authoritative experts and seniors were invited for the evaluation. The final result is jointly determined by the network voting and comments from the jury.

The geopark is the first red carbonate-rock forest scenic area dating back to the Cambrian Period (543 to 505 million years ago). The scenic area, immersed in the primitive simplicity of the ancient town, mysterious traditional ethnic customs and uncontaminated forest with original ecology, is a feast of ethic minority culture.
