Hunan to Help Wuling Mountain Area Alleviate Poverty and Achieve Prosperity

Zhou Qiang, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee presided over the conference of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee on the morning of June 7.

At the meeting, participants contemplated the speeches and instructions given by the CPPCC National Committee Chairman Jia Qinglin during his tour in Hunan.

China's top political advisor Jia once visited Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Zhangjiajie and other places from May 31 to June 4 to make investigations about pushing forward poverty relief and economic and social development in Wulin Mountain area.

In order to achieve the goal, up-to-date measures should be taken to alleviate poverty in the concentrated destitute areas, as conveyed at the meeting.

The meeting also urged that efforts should be given to economic development with local characteristics and full play be given to abundant natural resources.

It called for strong culture and travel development and creation of a batch of competitive companies and distinctive industries.

Based on regional advantages, natural resources and existing industrial development, efforts should be stepped up to adjust the industrial structure so as to shape the unique industrial system, laying down solid foundation for local people to shake off poverty and attain prosperity.

Governor of Hunan Province Xu Shousheng and Chairman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee Hu Biao also attended the event.
