Hunan-Northern Cape Friendship Week Launched in Kimberley

The Friendship Week between Hunan Province, China P.R. and Northern Cape, South Africa was held in Kimberley, capital of the Northern Cape, from Sept. 21 to 26. Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor Chen Zhaoxiong led Hunan delegation to attend the opening ceremony and major activities.

The year 2015 was declared the year of China in South Africa. Both countries are conducting a series of activities in major cities of South Africa to promote the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership. The event was organized by the People’s Government of Hunan Province and undertaken by its Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. In succession, there were over 10 grand activities concerning the fields of economy and trade, culture, science and education, and travel during the occasion, including economy and trade matchmaking, travel promotion, folk customs exhibition, Hunan movie show, and friendship cities visit.

The year 2003 marked the official friendly tie between Hunan and Northern Cape. During the Friendship Week, both sides signed a series of agreements on cementing friendship, economy, trade, and travel cooperation, as well as sister cities establishment. They also exchanged ideas on mining, equipment manufacturing, agricultural technology, engineering construction, ecology and environmental protection, cultural travel, and new energy industries, reaching extensive consensus and cooperative intentions.
