In recent years, Hunan has witnessed rapid development in environmental protection industry. According to the Environmental Protection Department of Hunan, Hunan has been included in the top ten list of China’s environmental protection industry. Its number of environmental protection enterprises has increased from 760 in 2008 to over 1,100 in 2014, with the output value growing from 40.7 billion yuan to 135 billion yuan. At present, Hunan has three environmental protection enterprises with a turnover of one billion yuan. The environmental sanitation equipment produced by Environmental Industry Company of Zoomlion Heavy Industry, with its 6 billion yuan of turnover in 2014, occupied the largest share in domestic market. The Yonker Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. has made great efforts in such fields as air pollution control, refuse disposal and soil remediation, earning a revenue of over 0.9 billion yuan. Statistics showed that the annual growth rate of output value of Hunan environmental protection enterprises has reached above 25% in recent years.
The rise of “Green Hunan” has relied greatly on its strong research and development as well as advanced environmental protection technology. Now Hunan has over 10 national and provincial research centers in heavy metal pollution prevention and industrial waste gas pollution control. With the combination of industry, university, research center and capital, Hunan environmental protection enterprises have taken part in the decision-making in formulating national environmental standards and have taken the lead in zero release of industrial furnace, control of PM 2.5, plant environmental management, heavy metal pollution regulation and environmental monitoring.
