Hunan Changsha Intensifies Water Protection

In order to improve water quality of the Xiangjiang River, Changsha has vigorously implemented water resource management regulations since January 1, 2012. The regulations prohibit breeding farms to discard untreated livestock manure into rivers, reservoirs, pools, and irrigation canals; to dump, store or bury various wastes on shoaly lands and bank slopes; to empty residues, carcasses, pollutants, toxic or hazardous contaminants into waters and to catch and kill underwater animals with explosives or poison. In addition, 123 sand and gravel plants were dismantled in response to the city's restriction on gravel mining.
