China's Changsha (Hunan Province) and Zhouzhuang (Jiangsu Province) were awarded the reputation of "global green city" and "global green town" respectively on June 20 during the 2013 Global Forum on Human Settlements and Awards Ceremony that coincided with the Berlin High-level Dialogue on Implementing Rio+20 Decisions on Sustainable Cities and Urban Transport.
The prize-presentation, which is also known as the "human settlement Oscars", is hosted by GFHS (Global Forum on Human Settlements) and has been held consecutively seven times by China, America and Brazil.
Yuan Yihe, representative of Changsha Municipal People's Government to the awards ceremony, remarked that the prize is a recognition of Changsha's efforts in building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society. He pledged that Changsha is endeavored to build a more livable city following the guideline of the High-Level Dialogue.
