The Forum on East Asian Cultural City and European Capital of Culture is being held in Shanghai between November 14 and 15. It is sponsored by the PRC Ministry of Culture and the Directorate General for Education and Culture of European Commission.
On November 13, CPC Changsha Municipal Committee Deputy Secretary and Changsha Mayor Chen Wenhao led a delegation to attend the forum. Chen will deliver a keynote speech. It is Changsha’s first participation in such a high-profile event. It goes as the Chinese representative of an “East Asian Cultural City”. Deputy Mayor Chen Zhong also participated.
The forum schedule is an opening ceremony and two parallel sub-forums: a mayoral forum and an experts round table. More than 150 mayors, heads of major cultural institutions, and cultural experts from cities selected as “capital of culture” in Europe, China, Japan, and South Korea will attend. They will discuss the positive role of culture in promoting urban economic prosperity and social harmony.
At the opening ceremony, Changsha will promote its achievements made in cultural heritage protection, innovation and development in recent years, and exchange views on cultural construction at the experts round table. At the ceremony, a welcoming program for the attendees has been prepared by the Changsha Academy of Art. It features the tune “Liuyang River” performed with traditional Chinese instruments and the “Blue Danube” performed using Western instruments. The program introduces the unique charms of East Asian culture and European culture to the attendees.
