According to Hunan Border Defense Contingent on January 1, 2013, more than 5,300 entry-exit flights with over 780,000 passengers had been checked through at the Changsha Frontier Inspection Station as of 24:00 on December 31, 2012. The number of passengers had risen by 14%, setting a new record again.
Following the opening of flights to Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Hualien, the Changsha-Makung (Penghu) tourist charter flight was launched this year. The commercial and cultural exchanges between Hunan and Taiwan have become increasingly frequent. More than 53,000 domestic residents flied to Taiwan from Changsha port in 2012, a year-on-year growth of 34%. Among the arrivals, the number of South Korean passengers exceeded 134,000, ranking first among the arrivals for seven consecutive years. As the flights from Changsha to Singapore and Bangkok become fixed, tourists from Singapore and Thailand have showed great enthusiasm in visiting Hunan. The arrivals from the two countries have surpassed 8,400 and 6,300, increasing by 230% and 30% respectively year on year.
