Belgian Ambassador Discusses Cooperation with Hunan

"Green always greets my eyes wherever I go, which is quite similar in Belgium. I've visited Hunan much more frequently than other provinces in China." Patrick Nijs, the Belgian ambassador to China, expressed his favorable impression on Hunan. Mr. Patrick Nijs is somewhat an old China hand, for he was the Belgian general consul in Shanghai and Hong Kong and married a Chinese woman.

Nijs opined that Hunan and Belgium share great potential for cooperation, for Belgium has advantage in such industries as steel, machinery, non-ferrous metals and environmental protection. Additionally, its environmental technologies stay at the world advanced level, including energy conservation and environmental protection technology in construction and harmless disposal technology of wastes. To build a resource-conserving and environment-friendly society, Hunan can work with Belgium in various aspects.

Mr. Patrick Nijs expected to promote the cooperation between Belgium and Hunan in clean energy and environment protection industry via the "Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Sustainable Development International Cooperation Forum" held in Changsha.
