The awarding ceremony of 2012 Hunan Top Ten Cultural Events and Figures was held on May 31, 2013.
The top ten cultural events are as follows: Hunan spirit refined as loyalty, sense of responsibility, seeking truth from facts, and striving for prosperity; three Hunan artworks carried on Shenzhou-8 spacecraft to travel in the space; the First College Students' Experience of Rural Culture in Hunan to discover more beautiful villages; 11 historical and cultural cities signed the "Changsha Declaration" in Changsha; the village library campaign concluded, promoting reading to all of the province's population; China South Publishing and Media Group acclaimed as the only culture publishing and media enterprise of the sample unit of governance index in Shanghai Stock Exchange; the First Hunan Internet Cultural Festival held to offer a network cultural feast; the mass arts performance "100 Arts Groups Competition" held in Changde; Xiangxi dance "Pursing Love" debuts in 2012 CCTV Spring gala; and the Hunan Cultural Development Plan in the 12th "Five-Year Plan" period introduced.
The top ten cultural figures are well-known sculptor Lei Yixin, professor Ouyang Youquan at Central South University, Xu Yaping, president of the Yueyang Finless Porpoise Protection Association, Hunan TV host He Jiong, Chen Jiehui, general manager of the Hunan Grand Theatre, Xu Yong, deputy general manager of the Hunan Daily Press Group, Zhang Qing'e, president of the Anhua Meishan Culture Park, Chen Yanglong, inheritor of the under-glaze colors porcelain, Zhao Baoquan, president of the Happy Elderly Newspaper, and Shen Hong, a librarian from Children's Library in Hecheng District, Huaihua City.
