Hunan Top Leaders Call for More Volunteer Tree Planting

As the spring wind blows over the land, another Arbor Day comes again on March 12.

Since the issue of “Decision on national voluntary tree planting” at the Fourth Session of the Fifth National People's Congress (NPC). Building Hunan’s reputation as green and beautiful, Hunan people voluntarily have been planting trees to promote sustainable development in urban and rural areas. By the end of 2014, Hunan’s forest coverage reached 59.57% and its forest growing stock 484 million cubic meters.

China is simultaneously dealing with a slowdown in economic growth, making structural adjustments, and absorbing the effects of the previous economic stimulus policies. Therefore, China’s economic development enters a new normal, and greening in rural and urban areas faces new trends and challenges. Activists and the general public in Hunan should accept the trend, actively adjust to the new normal, advocate tree planting with unremitting efforts, further promote ecological development, and continue to strengthen the carrying capacity of resources and environment to secure a beautiful environment with blue skies, green land and clear water.
