A delegation led by Mei Kebao, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, and Xu Minghua, vice governor of Hunan Province, paid an investigation tour to Hubei Province from May 9 to 10 and attended a symposium on the development of the Hunan-Hubei Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone. The delegation was received by Li Hongzhong, secretary of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee.
Mr. Li said that it is the common responsibility and obligation for Hunan and Hubei to protect and develop Dongting Lake. He vowed that Hubei will support any plan that is beneficial for the scientific development of Dongting Lake and is willing to cooperate with Hunan in implementing related policies and measures.
Mr. Mei proposed three suggestions for jointly developing the Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone: to accomplish the planning of the Zone and the research on major subjects; to work on the application and declaration for the national regional development strategy; to establish a normal exchange system for mutual cooperation.
